Revenge album: Songs my ex didn't want you to hear
The last thing he ever said to me was, “Can you remove me from your novel?”
Last week, I attended a literary event where a woman read poems about her failing marriage. “I use a fake name for him,” she said. She told us the fake name. The real husband was sitting in the front row. Everyone was aware of this. The poems were about the husband’s infidelities, his substance abuse, his rehab stints and home-made pornos. The woman read and we all listened, looking back and forth between her and her husband, the latter just sort of sitting there, neutral expression, occasionally chuckling at an amusing turn of phrase. I thought, That’s the kind of man I need.
