Your sharp mind and talent for thoughtful observation always shine through in your creations. I personally related to some of what you wrote here, and even in the places where I could not personally relate, I still felt interested and sympathetic — a result of effective and meaningful self-expression.

Even when our parents are not the stereotypical devoted or "always there" type of parent, they can and do impact us in positive ways. Best to focus on that. As you say, we rely on a varied assortment of types in this world...all important in different ways. Your dad's open mind and support of your quests or interests (and through how he modeled living his own life) was probably a large part of what made you into a really original person who has interesting things to say. That was a beautiful eulogy that reflects a lot of maturity and perspective.
